This is the first of the Southern California Association for Healthcare Risk Management’s new pages which will appear in every issue of HRMR monthly. Carole A. Lambert, editor of The Source, the association’s online news bulletin, introduces the column.
Welcome to Southern California Association For Healthcare Risk Management (SCAHRM’s) new regular page. We are delighted to be joining the growing roster of ASHRM chapters working with Healthcare Risk Management Review to provide members and colleagues with a range of perspectives on managing risk and preventing loss.
SCAHRM’s membership is mainly drawn from the broad geographical area that encompasses Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Imperial, and Ventura Counties. This is one of the most diverse places in the world, where the challenges of meeting the healthcare needs of its residents are intensified by the very diversity that makes it such a vibrant environment. SCAHRM members, whatever our professional backgrounds or positions, respond to the challenge of keeping patients and families, physicians and staff, and enterprises safe with creativity, energy, and dedication.
Looking back
SCAHRM’s annual educational conference is the centerpiece of our program year. In May 2015, we honored our mission to provide continuing education, networking opportunities, and professional enhancements during SCAHRM’s 35th annual conference with hot topics and dynamic speakers.
We were fortunate to hear from Dr Dan O’Connell from the University of Washington on apology and disclosure.
Chris Van Gorder, CEO of Scripps Health, shared insights on front line leadership. Lt Paul Vance from the Connecticut State Police outlined the essential elements of dealing with the media, based on his experience with the Sandy Hook school shootings. There were more than 20 educational programs in all, highlighting the knowledge, skill and experience of SCAHRM members, colleagues and guests.
Moving forward
During SCAHRM’s annual business meeting luncheon new and continuing members of the board of directors were installed (see right). We are a team committed to the mission and vision of SCAHRM and we are looking forward to a great year under the leadership of Lee and Josh.
Upcoming programs also appear. We hope you will join our webinar in November. Be sure to visit the SCAHRM website, www.scahrm.org regularly and check monthly (around the 15th of every month) for the latest post to The Source, SCAHRM’s op ed page (follow the link to News). We welcome your feedback and look forward to hearing from you.
