Amerigroup District of Columbia has been contracted by the Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) to serve the individuals who participate in the District of Columbia Healthy Families Medicaid managed care and D.C. Healthcare Alliance programs.
Amerigroup D.C. is one of three Medicaid managed care organizations selected to serve the District of Columbia. Under the new contract, Amerigroup D.C. will coordinate medical, behavioral, dental and vision health benefits for managed care enrollees.
In June 2017, Amerigroup appointed Linda Elam as D.C. Medicaid plan president to oversee the administration of all services for the newly-awarded health plan.
Before joining Amerigroup D.C., Elam was a deputy assistant secretary in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the US Department of Health and Human Services where she oversaw the office responsible for policies focused on supporting the independence, health and productivity of elderly individuals, people living with disabilities and behavioral health issues. Prior to her federal appointment, Elam served as the State Medicaid Director for the District of Columbia.
"Amerigroup D.C. is honored to have been selected to serve Medicaid and Alliance beneficiaries in the District of Columbia and we look forward to providing high quality services and support to our enrollees," said Elam.
"While Amerigroup will be a new managed care option in the District, we have a long and well-established history across the country with more than 20 years of experience improving the health and well-being of our enrollees."
Elam added: "I’m excited about the opportunity to lead Amerigroup D.C. and to be a part of a team that is dedicated to the development and implementation of strategies designed to improve population health. We are committed to serving our enrollees and the District by building strong community-based relationships, supporting healthy behaviors, and providing timely, high quality health care."
