Noted anesthesiologist Dr Michael Jopling has joined the board of advisors of the Physician-Patient Alliance for Health and Safety, an advocacy group whose mission is to promote safer clinical practices and standards for patients.

Currently an anesthesiologist with NorthStar Anesthesia at several Ohio medical institutions, Jopling is also chief medical officer of Cardiox Corporation (Columbus), executive vice president of Accel Anesthesia (Columbus), and co-founder of Medical Electronic Innovations (Milwaukee).

"On behalf of PPAHS, I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Michael Jopling to our board of advisors," said PPAHS executive director Dr Michael Wong.

"As clinicians throughout America and especially in Central Ohio already know, Dr Jopling is at the forefront of technology and processes aimed directly at improving patient safety and saving patients' lives. I have no doubt that his colleagues on our board of directors will warmly embrace his innovative way of thinking."

A 1980 graduate of the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Dr Jopling spent his first 14 years of professional practice in academic anesthesia between West Virginia University (WVU) and The Ohio State University (OSU).

During his time at WVU, he served as section chief of cardiovascular anesthesia, vice-chairman and OR director. From 1998 through 2014, he was in private practice at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital. At St Ann's, he actively served on many hospital committees, including 10 years as the chairman of anesthesiology, chairman of the surgical administrative committee, and two years as president of the medical staff.

Throughout his career, Dr Jopling's administrative experience and knowledge of anesthesia and operating room processes have yielded numerous contributions to patient safety, contracting, quality improvement, surgeon satisfaction, staffing, recruiting, pharmaceuticals and technology.

"I am honored and excited to join the Board of Advisors at the Physician-Patient Alliance, and I very much look forward to working with my fellow board members in achieving our common goal of patient safety," Dr Jopling said.
