Health insurer Anthem has appointed Tomas Orozco as president of its Medicare east region.
Previously, Orozco served as president of Simply Healthcare’s Medicare business in Florida. He joined Simply Healthcare in 2011 as executive vice president of the south Florida market. Prior to that, Orozco held executive positions at CarePlus Health Plans and worked at Physicians Healthcare Plans before that.
In his new role, Orozco will oversee Anthem’s Medicare operations in Connecticut, Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia.
Orozco will operate out of Anthem’s Miami, Florida, office and focus on growing Anthem’s Medicare business in Florida and the rest of the east region. He will serve as president of both the Florida plan and Anthem’s Medicare east region until a new president is named for Simply Healthcare.
Marc Russo, Anthem’s national president of Medicare, said: "Tomas is a respected leader at Anthem and brings a strong commitment to delivering consumer-centric solutions that meet the health care and lifestyle needs of our members."
"Leveraging his collaborative leadership style and 20 years of industry experience, Tomas led Simply’s Medicare Advantage plans to multiple years of 4-Star ratings by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services – a significant achievement for a plan that is less than five years old. I am confident he will bring the same drive and results to the rest of Anthem’s Medicare business in the east region."
