Health insurance provider Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has appointed Steve Martenet as the president of the company in Ohio.

Martenet takes over the position from Erin Hoeflinger, who has been promoted to oversee Anthem’s East region that includes Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Virginia. Hoeflinger assumed the new role earlier this month.

In his new role, Martenet will oversee the management of Anthem’s commercial business and strategy in Ohio.

Martenet has over two decades of experience in the industry, having held senior leadership positions at Anthem including president of commercial business in Missouri and Wisconsin, and vice president of sales in Ohio and Kentucky.

"Ohio is one of Anthem’s most important and exciting markets, having grown to nearly four million members statewide," said Martenet. "I’m looking forward to the challenge of this diverse market that is, in many ways, leading the country in the shift to a patient-centered healthcare model."

Anthem’s West region president Pam Kehaly, commented: "Steve’s Ohio roots and passion for transforming the health care system to improve access and affordability make him a perfect fit for this role. Our members, clients and business partners in Ohio will greatly benefit from his extensive experience."
