Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) has acquired certain Medicare advantage and commercial group membership from Allegian Health Plans (AHP), a wholly-owned managed care subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare.

The transaction includes nearly 20,000 members, enrolled through small, medium and large employer groups, as well as Medicare Advantage plans.

"We are excited to welcome Allegian Health Plans members into the Blue Cross and Blue Shield family, and we will work closely with Allegian's members, doctors, and other health care professionals to address each individual's health care needs, while helping them successfully navigate the evolving health care system," said Dr. Dan McCoy, president of BCBSTX. "We are working closely with AHP leaders to ensure a smooth transition for our new members."

This acquisition follows Tenet Healthcare and BCBSTX entering into multi-year Medicare and commercial contracts, providing members uninterrupted in-network access to Tenet's hospitals, outpatient centers and employed physicians in Texas.
