Cigna acquires healthcare technology company

Insurer Cigna has acquired Brighter, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) digital health plan provider, to further its digital transformation and growth.

With the integration of Brighter's digital health plan platform, Cigna aims to accelerate and expand its consumer initiatives and provider partnerships.

“We’re committed to delivering superior experiences that better connect consumers with high-quality healthcare providers and wellness programs,” said David Cordani, president and chief executive officer at Cigna. “The acquisition of Brighter accelerates our progress towards these priorities and in establishing us as the leader in the digital transformation of our industry.”

The company stated that the acquisition is consistent with its strategy of deploycapital toward opportunities that enhance the company’s ability to create value for customers and provider partners in an increasingly dynamic marketplace, and is an example of ongoing investment in innovative and disruptive business opportunities.
