US medical professional liability insurer Coverys has appointed Keith Bryceland as active underwriter of its Syndicate 1975.
Bryceland has over 25 years of experience, specializing in underwriting global professional liability insurance and reinsurance. He most recently served as senior underwriter at Chubb Syndicate 2488, underwriting all classes of professional liability insurance and reinsurance, ranging from medical to legal liability.
"As growing healthcare systems look to the Lloyd’s market for customized protection and financial strength, Syndicate 1975 will build upon Coverys’ expertise in bringing unparalleled products and services to the healthcare market," said Gregg Hanson, CEO and president of Coverys. “Keith’s knowledge and experience is an asset that will assist Coverys as it seeks to enter the Lloyd’s market in London, offering sophisticated insurance and reinsurance solutions for larger group practices and healthcare systems.”
In October, Coverys received in-principle approval from Lloyd’s Franchise Board to establish Syndicate 1975 and is working with Lloyd’s and third party managing agency R&Q Managing Agency (RQMA) to prepare to launch. Earlier this year, Coverys entered into an agreement with RQMA’s parent company, Randall and Quilter Investment Holdings, to acquire the third-party managing agent.
The syndicate will write a portfolio of both medical liability insurance and healthcare reinsurance across a broad range of specialty lines, with a focus on healthcare captives and risk retention groups.
Syndicate 1975 will be a source of London-based insurance and reinsurance capacity. Placed through brokers, for physicians, hospitals, and other providers of healthcare, it will provide protection coupled with risk management and mitigation solutions to improve margins and increase patient safety.
