Employee Health Systems Medical Group has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire MultiCultural Medical Group. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2017.
Both the organizations are managed by SynerMed, the California-based healthcare platform for government-sponsored programs.
MultiCultural Medical Group is an independent practice association providing healthcare in California since 1993.
Founded in 1990, Employee Health Systems Medical Group is an integrated healthcare delivery system focusing on government-sponsored programs, including Medi-Cal/Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Medicare and Dual-Eligibles (Medi-Medi), organized labor and specialty IPAs.
"On behalf of EHS Medical Group, I am thrilled to welcome MultiCultural Medical Group into the EHS family," said James Mason, chief executive officer and president of SynerMed.
"MultiCultural’s long history of providing culturally sensitive and comprehensive healthcare to the diverse patient population in San Diego County is the perfect complement to EHS’s mission to provide high quality care to the underserved."
Rodney Hood, president of MultiCultural Medical Group, commented: "MultiCultural Medical Group has been proud to serve San Diego’s minority community. We chose to join EHS so that together we could advance EHS and MultiCultural’s mission to provide quality healthcare to underserved and disadvantaged communities. This is an exciting step towards our goal of equitable and cost-efficient healthcare for everyone."
