Texas Association of Community Health Plans (TACHP) has appointed Darnell Dent, president and CEO of FirstCare Health Plans, as the new chaiman of its board.
Dent will provide leadership to TACHP's 12 Texas-based companies that collectively serve over two million Texans.
He will work closely with recently appointed board vice chair Frank Dominguez, CEO for El Paso Health, to lead the board in advocating for Texas health care consumers and providers.
TACHP president and CEO Kay Ghahremani said: "Darnell is highly regarded in the health care industry for his business expertise and the calming influence he brings to situations. People listen to what Darnell has to say. He gives his time for professional mentorship of others but is also open to new ideas from his peers. TACHP is fortunate to have him serving in this top leadership role."
TACHP said that its objectives in 2018 are to create awareness and enhance the profile of community health plans, promote the Texas Medicaid Program for its quality, innovation and cost efficiency amongst providers and members, and advance its deep commitment to the health care of local residents and long-standing community partners.
Dent commented: "I am honored to serve TACHP and its member plans as the Board Chair for 2018. TACHP's commitment to Texas-based health plans, and to the members in our communities, will help raise awareness and reach of higher standards for health care to all Texans, particularly those earning modest household incomes."
