HIPAA expert to speak at healthcare information conference

10-09-2015

Chad Kissinger, founder of hosting solutions provider OnRamp, will speak at the North Carolina Healthcare Information & Communications Alliance (NCHICA) conference next week. He will discuss HIPAA compliance, cloud computing, and building relationships with cloud providers.

The 21st annual event will take place September 13-16 in Pinehurst, North Carolina and will gather healthcare and IT professionals for educational sessions following technology, connected health, and population health tracks.

Kissinger’s presentation, titled: “HIPAA in the cloud: how to effectively collaborate with cloud providers,” will take place Tuesday, September 15 from 12:30-1:30pm as part of the technology track.

Kissinger will provide his perspective on the issues associated with outsourcing the storage of critical healthcare data to cloud providers.

“Like many businesses, healthcare organizations are rapidly adopting outsourced technologies, including cloud computing, to more efficiently accomplish their IT needs,” said Kissinger.

“However, with evolving cyber security threats and an increasingly complex regulatory environment, a greater emphasis is being placed on the relationships companies build with their chosen IT providers. Beyond ensuring critical data and systems are protected physically, IT solutions that are backed by the proper policies and procedures, including guidelines for practices such as employee training, media handling and sanitization, and encryption, are becoming key for compliance.”
