Intermountain Healthcare, a US healthcare provider, and Zebra Medical Vision, a deep learning imaging analytics company, have revealed that for the first time, machine learning will be integrated into the medical imaging analysis of a premier healthcare provider, in order to enhance patient care.
Zebra-Med’s analytics engine receives imaging data and analyzes it for findings indicative of cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic and bone health. Those findings will be used by Intermountain to identify patients at risk and optimize care. As Zebra-Med’s engine grows with new insights it will be able to provide increasingly comprehensive reports that will allow more accurate, cost effective patient treatment.
In addition to empowering physicians with clinical insights, Zebra-Med’s analytics engine can scan across large imaging archives past and present, to assist at-risk organizations in understanding the underlying risk profile of their patients. These population-level insights on long term, chronic diseases can then be translated to early detection and intervention, with significant positive effects on the quality and cost of patient care.
"We believe imaging analytics will change how we practice radiology over the next decade. Our physicians will be more productive and be enabled to create clinically actionable discrete data through the use of automated assistants that will help them deal with ever increasing workloads – without compromising quality of care. We look forward to deploying the Zebra-Med solution and starting to realize these benefits," said Keith White, MD, medical director of imaging services at Intermountain.
"Intermountain has been at the forefront of medical technology for a long time. The deployment of Zebra-Med’s Analytics engine will allow them to break further new ground, and we are excited to begin this journey with them," said Elad Benjamin, CEO of Zebra Medical Vision. "Machine learning and deep learning will have a great impact on healthcare and radiology and we’ll continue leading the way in creating and deploying real-world clinical tools that use technology to improve lives."
