22-07-2013

Sharon Groves, an assistant vice president of clinical risk management for Berkley Medical Excess Underwriters (BerkleyMed), has been appointed as a faculty member for the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM).

As a faculty member of the HRM Certificate Program: Barton Modules, Groves will instruct Module 3: Advanced Forum in HRM.

The Barton Modules are considered a cornerstone of ASHRM’s professional development opportunities, covering key aspects of risk management and providing continuing education credits to a variety of healthcare risk management professionals.

ASHRM faculty members are seasoned leaders from a variety of healthcare risk management professions. Groves was selected for her extensive experience in the healthcare and insurance industry as a nurse, director of risk management, and senior risk management consultant for healthcare and medical malpractice insurance companies.

“I have been a risk manager for a health system and a consultant for insurance carriers for over 20 years and wanted to experience a new challenge,” she said. “The subject matter in the advanced program gives me that challenge.

“I love people and enjoy serving as a mentor. It has been fulfilling watching new risk managers who I've have worked with grow in their profession and give back. I've volunteered in various roles for ASHRM and those experiences have helped me grow in my profession.

“By taking on this teaching role I hope to become a more valuable employee and the knowledge gained as well as the additional teaching experiences further strengthen the services that we offer to our clients.”
