Manatt, Phelps & Phillips has appointed Michael Merritt to join the firm’s New York office as a managing director with Manatt Health, its interdisciplinary health policy, law and business advisory division.
With more than 20 years of experience in healthcare and academic medicine, Merritt’s career has encompassed clinical, education and research-related programs with academic medical centers and health systems in both the US and abroad.
Most recently, he has been advising academic medical centers and healthcare companies on global strategies and healthcare development after working for nearly nine years at New York-Presbyterian (NYP).
“Mick is a seasoned consultant and hospital executive with hands-on experience advising and implementing academic medical center strategy,” said William Bernstein, chair of Manatt Health.
“His sophisticated background will be an immediate asset to our many healthcare provider clients, especially academic medical centers and other provider systems undergoing major strategic changes, including those diversifying their practices internationally.”
Merritt was previously vice president of global services at NYP, where he led a team of nearly ninety people focused on positioning the organization for referral and revenue growth through direct-to-patient strategies, institutional collaborations, employer initiatives, and global education and training programs, in collaboration with Columbia and Weill Cornell leadership.
“The firm’s team of professionals is distinct in its diversity of high-level experience, including leaders from across the public and private healthcare spectrum,” Merritt said. “Particularly at this time of uncertainty and flux, the Manatt Health team is an essential advisor to leading healthcare organizations, with a strong reputation for innovation and excellence. I am excited to join such a dynamic and distinguished group.”
