National Patient Safety Foundation welcomes PeraHealth

The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), a central voice for patient safety since 1997, recently welcomed PeraHealth as a member of the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition.

PeraHealth, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, provides clinical surveillance software that helps nurses and doctors better monitor patients for subtle but serious health issues. The technology is powered by the Rothman Index, a universal score for predicting patient readmission and mortality risk that was developed by brothers whose mother died when a preventable complication went undetected after low-risk surgery.

Validated by 17 peer-reviewed publications, the Rothman Index pulls data from a hospital's electronic health record and translates it into a numerical score that is presented in color-coded graphs, allowing care teams to easily visualize patient condition. The Rothman Index scores and graphs are computed when a patient is admitted and trended over time, to include previous and future hospital stays.

"PeraHealth is honored to join a coalition that shares our dedication to continuously improving patient safety and care quality," said PeraHealth chief executive officer (CEO) Stephanie Alexander. "We look forward to collaborating with other NPSF Patient Safety Coalition members and sharing best practices and innovative ideas around driving improvements in care delivery."

Membership in the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition is open to diverse groups, including companies working on solutions to address patient safety challenges, professional associations, advocacy organizations, and other similarly committed organizations.

The coalition is a means of aligning stakeholders from across the continuum of care to promote the mission of advancing patient safety as well as the safety of health care workers.

"We are very pleased to welcome PeraHealth to the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition," said Dr Tejal Gandhi, president and CEO of NPSF. "Their approach to driving quality and patient safety is very much aligned with our goals and those of our other members, and we look forward to working together."
