Socrates Analytics, a healthcare IT company that helps hospitals to strategically control costs, has hired Jim Evans as its chief executive officer.

Evans has 20 years of expertise in healthcare data management, strategy, reimbursement and corporate development. He is a specialist in payer and provider markets and held senior roles in the past.

“We’re very excited to have Jim on the team,” said Dr Conor Delaney, founder of Socrates. “Jim brings precisely the depth of experience and extensive relationships we need to scale this business.”

Socrates Analytics enables hospitals to analyze utilization of hospital resources to better manage risk and optimize spending. The business was launched in October 2012 with funding from University Hospitals Case Medical Center.

“University Hospitals is pleased with the valuable data analytics that Socrates Analytics has consistently provided the hospital,” said Brad Bond, vice president of treasury, University Hospitals. “Under Jim’s leadership, we look forward to continued growth and success of the company.”

Evans said: “There is an enormous market opportunity in helping hospitals improve efficiency, evaluate business models, and assess risk in the next generation of healthcare. Dr Delaney’s leadership and University Hospitals’ sponsorship have built the foundation upon which we will grow one of the most valuable healthcare start-ups in the city of Cleveland.”
