Optum, the health services business of UnitedHealth Group, has completed the acquisition of Massachusetts-based Reliant Medical Group. The deal was first announced in May 2017.

Reliant became a part of Optum's healthcare delivery arm OptumCare on April 1. The company told its patients that the management and staff of Reliant will remain unchanged, and it will continue to accept the same insurance plans. However, Reliant would no longer be a tax-exempt charitable corporation, according to a statement.

"Our new relationship with OptumCare is an exciting development for our patients, our employees, and the community. Reliant Medical Group is now stronger than ever, with access to a wider range of new resources and healthcare expertise," said Tarek Elsawy, president and CEO of Reliant.

"Our commitment to providing top-quality, responsive healthcare to you and your family remains our top priority," Elsawy added.
