US medical professional liability at a crossroads

15-05-2014

The US medical professional liability insurance (MPLI) segment has continued its run of year-over-year profitability, but future results will depend on how well MPL insurers manage hurdles such as health care transitions, hospital consolidation and challenges to state tort reform, according to a report in the latest issue of Best’s Journal.

This segment review, titled “US medical professional liability segment continued profitable run in 2013,” states that the industry’s favorable results were sustained despite another year of low investment yields and declining net investment income.
