Virginia PSO selects ECRI to analyze adverse events

20-03-2014

ECRI Institute Patient Safety Organization (PSO) has been selected to provide patient safety services for the Virginia PSO, a component organization of the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and the Virginia Hospital Research & Education Foundation.

PSOs provide a protected legal environment for analyzing patient safety adverse events. The services include a patient safety data collection and reporting system and analysis of adverse events and other information from hospitals and health systems that participate in Virginia PSO.

“We are very excited about this new partnership with ECRI Institute whose broad experience with adverse event issues will help to accelerate safety improvement in Virginia,” said Abraham Segres, MHA, vice president, quality and patient safety, Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. “This partnership will enable Virginia healthcare providers to combine their quality and safety efforts with those of providers across the country to improve healthcare for all individuals receiving care in Virginia."

Ronni Solomon, executive vice president and general counsel, ECRI Institute, added: “We look forward to our collaboration with Virginia PSO. They have quickly engaged their members in this program and their proactive approach to patient safety will be a great benefit.”

ECRI Institute PSO services are based on applied research, interactive tools, a learning network, and a reporting platform. To enable healthcare providers to learn from near misses and adverse events, and to improve patient care, the PSO gathers, aggregates, and analyzes patient safety data from healthcare providers across the continuum of care. The reporting platform provides a secure way for ECRI Institute PSO to accept data from providers using any electronic system, as well as to provide a web-based, intuitive interface for data entry.
