Zebra Technologies improves its specimen labelling solution

Zebra Technologies Corporation, a producer of products that provide real-time visibility into healthcare organizations' patients, clinicians and assets, has updated its healthcare portfolio, including its mobile specimen collection solution.

Misidentification of specimen samples leads to tens of thousands of adverse events annually throughout the healthcare system. To battle this alarming trend, Zebra developed the QLn Healthcare printer to enable clinicians to label samples at the patient's bedside, reducing the chance of error.

Andy Tippet, healthcare vertical manager, the Americas, for Zebra Technologies, said: "Helping our customers navigate the complexities of patient safety was top of mind when we designed the QLn healthcare mobile printers.

“The QLn series is the only true mobile printer solution that provides clinician staff with the ability to safely and properly clean the device after each use.

At Zebra, we are committed to helping improve the healthcare experience for patients and workers by developing products and solutions that enhance the patient experience while simultaneously increasing hospital efficiencies."

Zebra's mobile specimen solution set was developed with insight from healthcare leaders to alleviate pain points in the industry and to improve patient safety and efficiencies in healthcare facilities.

The new printers support IQ Color labels that allow clinicians to label specimens at a patient's bedside and label 'stat' when necessary, reducing the risk of mislabeling and improving patient safety.

The new solutions include the Link-OS(TM) environment, which has a multiplatform software development kit (SDK), allowing hospitals to be compatible with a variety of operating systems and mobile devices.

The solutions also feature disinfectant ready plastics that allow clinicians to easily clean the printer after each bedside use, reducing the risk of passing germs and any other potentially infectious liquids.

"The QLn Healthcare featured an updated user interface to enable easier interaction for clinicians and, through the Link-OS Profile Manager functions, printer management is simple whether a hospital has five or five thousand printers. Because our solutions are easy to use and manage, clinicians have more time to focus on what is most important, the care of patients," added Tippet.
